Although court proceedings are public, Shaffie Law values the privacy and dignity of each of its clients. Accordingly, in the following real case summaries we omit any identifying information including the client's name, initials or their gender identification. 

[2025] Kitchener, Ontario

The client, a graduate student awaiting professional certification, was charged with indecent act after witnesses observed that their genitals were exposed inside a retail establishment. The incident was partially captured on video surveillance. The charge was withdrawn without scheduling a trial. 

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a professional masseur, was charged with sexual assault after a patron alleged that she was touched inappropriately during treatment. The charge was withdrawn after trial dates were set. 

[2025] Brampton, Ontario 

The client, a retiree, was charged with mischief under $5,000 and failure to comply with a recognizance (s.810 peace bond) after breaking their spouse's phone during an argument. This was the second time the client had been charged in relation to the same complainant within the year. The charges were withdrawn without scheduling a trial.

[2024] Newmarket, Ontario

The client, a finance professional, was charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of criminal harassment. On learning that the client had been unfaithful to her in the course of a multi-year relationship, the victim phoned police to report an instance of rape as well as stalking behaviour following the parties' break-up. The victim further described multiple acts of sexual assault throughout the relationship and furnished police with a text message admission from the client. The trial proceeded before a jury. After two days of cross-examination of the victim, the Crown withdrew all charges. 

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a finance professional, was charged with three counts of domestic assault after their estranged spouse accused the client of slapping during multiple arguments. The charges arose in the context of a bitter divorce and custody battle. One of the assaults was captured on video surveillance. All charges were withdrawn unconditionally without scheduling a trial. 

[2025] Newmarket, Ontario 

The client, a retiree, was charged with assault and assault with a weapon after shoving and throwing a chair at their spouse during an argument. The charges were withdrawn unconditionally without scheduling a trial.

[2024] Oshawa, Ontario

The client, an IT professional, was charged with domestic assault in relation to his pregnant spouse. The victim alleged that she had been punched in the stomach and face multiple times, resulting in a documented multi-day visit to the hospital to ensure the health of the baby. After six days of trial, the client was acquitted. 

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client was charged with assault after slapping their partner and dragging the partner out of their car. The client was subsequently charged with failure to comply in another after the complainant was discovered in their car during a routine traffic stop. All charges were withdrawn without scheduling a trial.

[2025] Milton, Ontario

The client, a real estate professional, was charged with assault after slapping and kicking their partner during an argument. The charge was withdrawn at the second court appearance.

[2024] Toronto, Ontario

The client was charged with domestic assault after being discovered in flagrante delicto by their partner, prompting an argument in which they allegedly slapped their partner. The charge was withdrawn without scheduling a trial.

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a foreign student, was charged with domestic assault, choking and assault causing bodily harm following an incident with their dating partner. It was alleged that the client shoved, punched and choked the complainant. The charges were withdrawn unconditionally without scheduling a trial. 

[2025] Milton, Ontario

The client, a medical professional, was charged with criminal harassment and obstruction of justice after allegedly attempting to persuade a witness not to testify against their sibling at a domestic violence trial. All charges were withdrawn unconditionally. 

[2023] Newmarket, Ontario

The client, a student, was charged with sexual assault following an incident at an after-party. The victim alleged that following her high school prom she attended an outdoor event for students where she consumed a significant quantity of alcohol. During the party she ran into the client, whom she had been following on social media. She followed the client to a remote area of the property where, she alleged, she was forcibly raped without a condom. Several witnesses confirmed that the victim was visibly shaken and crying on returning to join her friends. After six days of trial, the client was acquitted of the charge. 

[2025] Brampton, Ontario

The client, an engineer, was charged with assault after they pushed their sibling down a flight of stairs during an argument. The siblings had a history of argumentation. The charge was withdrawn unconditionally without scheduling a trial.

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a retail professional, was charged with domestic assault and forcible confinement after pushing their spouse during an argument and preventing them from leaving a bedroom. The charge was withdrawn.

[2025] Toronto, Ontario

The client was charged with domestic assault after trying to grab a phone from their spouse's hand when their spouse called 911. The charge was withdrawn unconditionally.

[2024] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a young person, was charged with assault following an altercation at school. The charge was withdrawn without scheduling a trial. 

[2025] Brantford, Ontario

The client, a professional, was charged with domestic assault following a dispute with their spouse at a hotel. The argument arose in the context of an impending divorce, following the discovery of the spouse's infidelity. The charge was withdrawn unconditionally. 

[2024] Milton, Ontario

The client, a professional, was charged domestic assault, choking and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle following an altercation with their common law spouse. It was alleged that the client attempted to strike their partner with their motor vehicle on leaving the property. The client was also charged with failing to comply with their release order after police located them in the complainant's residence during a random bail compliance check. All charges were withdrawn.

The client was charged with domestic assault after an argument over finances with their common law partner. It was alleged that the client slapped their partner and forced them out of their shared apartment. The charge was withdrawn. 

[2024] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a professional, was charged with domestic assault and assault causing bodily harm following two incidents involving their spouse. The second allegation resulted in a visit to the hospital. The incidents arose in the context of a looming divorce and custody battle. All charges were withdrawn. 

[2024] Brantford, Ontario

The client, a business owner, was charged with theft and obstructing a peace officer after they recovered a motor vehicle which had been sold to another individual but not paid for. It was alleged that the client lied to law enforcement about their knowledge of the whereabouts of the vehicle. The charges were withdrawn unconditionally.

[2024] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a blue collar worker, was charged with domestic assault after slapping their partner in their face during an argument about infidelity. The assault occurred while wrestling over a cellular phone. The charge was withdrawn without scheduling a trial.

[2024] Toronto, Ontario

The client was charged with assault after emptying a glass of water on their ex-partner and grabbing the ex-partner's phone during an argument. The charge was withdrawn unconditionally without scheduling a trial.

[2024] Brampton, Ontario

The client, an entrepreneur, was charged with assault after punching, scratching, and hitting their common-law partner multiple times during an argument regarding the partner's infidelity. The charge was withdrawn without scheduling a trial.

[2024] Toronto, Ontario

The client was charged with assault after they were observed on the street in an altercation with their same-sex dating partner. They were seen to punch and push their partner, causing the victim to fall to the ground. The charge was withdrawn unconditionally.

[2024] Newmarket, Ontario

​The client, a construction worker, was charged with two counts of assault, mischief, and uttering threats. Following the breakdown of their marriage, the client's estranged spouse alleged a series of abusive incidents spanning three years. All charges were withdrawn without scheduling a trial.

[2024] Toronto, Ontario

The client was charged with assault choking after an argument with an ex-partner regarding property which the client believed the ex had stolen. The client later saw the the ex-partner on the street and attempted to engage in conversation, leading to a charge of failure to comply. All charges were withdrawn without scheduling a trial.

[2024] Bradford, Ontario

​The client, a professional, was charged with domestic assault and domestic assault with a weapon after kicking and throwing a television remote at their partner of six years during an argument. The partner also brought up past problematic behaviour to police. All charges were withdrawn unconditionally.

[2024] Brampton, Ontario

The client, a truck driver, was charged with assault following an argument with their spouse of seven years over a charging cable. After the client's spouse asked them to leave the house, the client was alleged to have grabbed their spouse and thrown them to the ground, then pressed down their arms to prevent the spouse standing up again. The charge was withdrawn without scheduling a trial.

[2024] Toronto, Ontario

The client was charged with carrying a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, and uttering threats following an argument with a roommate. The roommate was unhappy with the client's drinking and confronted them about it. The roommate alleged that the client took a foldable knife from their pocket, brandished it, and threatened the roommate with it, then followed them outside after the roommate tried to get away. All charges were withdrawn unconditionally.

The client, a finance professional, was charged with assault after slapping their spouse several times during and following an argument regarding the spouse's infidelity. The charge was withdrawn unconditionally.

[2024] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a tech professional, was charged with two counts of assault following an argument with their common-law partner of five years. A witness observed the client kick their partner into a vehicle and bite them on the cheek. All charges were withdrawn unconditionally.

[2024] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a healthcare professional, was charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5000, after an argument with their dating partner led to the client damaging several items of property in a hotel room and throwing cans of beer at their partner. All charges were withdrawn unconditionally.

[2024] Toronto, Ontario

The client, a finance professional, was charged with domestic assault following an argument about alleged infidelity with their common-law partner. Significant consumption of alcohol was involved. Following the argument, the client's partner phoned police and claimed they had been assaulted and that they were being forced to hang up the phone. The charge was withdrawn unconditionally.

[2024] Brampton, Ontario

The client, a finance professional, was charged with assault after an argument with their spouse regarding finances, during which the client grabbed their spouse's face and clothes, leaving a scratch. The spouse later disclosed events on two earlier occasions, which led to two further charges of assault. All charges were withdrawn without scheduling a trial.

[2024] Brampton, Ontario

The client, a finance professional, was charged with assault and assault with a weapon after returning home from an office party and discovering that their pregnant spouse had not provided the couple's children with dinner. The client was alleged to have shoved their spouse and closed a drawer on their hand. Alcohol was involved, and previous incidents had been reported to police. All charged were withdrawn unconditionally.
